Satsang
is a gathering of yoga students, teachers, and "sangha"
(community) for chanting, meditation and spiritual gathering.
There is always a guest speaker that shares his/hers wisdom,
expertice and/or experience on different aspects of Yoga,
such as philosophy, meditation, diet, alternative/ complementary
medicine, breathing, energy, etc.
Kirtan
is the chanting of sacred sounds. It is a practice which is
becoming more and more popular all over the world. Chanting
is the easiest and most powerful way of balancing the body
and mind, and realizing the spirit within us. Kirtan really
is the best medicine, and the ancient yoga masters have been
using these sound vibrations for thousands of years to calm
the mind and open the heart.
Satsangs
are
held one
FRIDAY per month in the Fall through Spring
from 6 to 8:30pm approx. unless otherwise posted.
No
pre-registration required for this event. unless otherwise
noted. A $15 donation at the door is suggested although any

About
the lecture:
Yoga is a unique science of body mind and spirit. It provides practices for prevention and treatment of dis-ease. In this talk by Dr. Mc Lanahan, she will explain the yoga diet and how, what we eat, affects our body, mind and emotions. She will also share with us, how a diet is not only what you eat, but how you eat, when you eat and why you eat, the latter one being so much the source of so many eating disorders. We will also learn from her, the benefits of a yogic lifestyle and what it consists of, taking our yoga practice beyond the mat to our daily lives. This workshop will be both educational and experiential.
About the Speaker:
Dr McLanahan is a nationally recognized
authority on preventive medicine, nutrition, stress
reduction, and primary family health care. She has spent
extensive time in India and Asia studying a variety
of ancient healing practices and has served a s Director
of Stress Management Training at the Preventive Medicine
Research Institute located in Sausalito, California,
where for the last 20 years, she worked with Dr. Dean
Ornish to document the benefits of dietary change and
stress management to prevent and treat cardiovascular
disease. Dr McLanahan is the author of the book
"Surgery and its Alternatives: How to Make the
Rich Choices for Your Health", a
book in which she helps make informed decisions on when
and how to use alternative and complementary medicine,
either as a substitute for or as an aid to successful
surgery,. and is at work on a second book
about the medical benefits of Yoga. She will
be signing the book after the lecture.
